Laffites Cove & Pirates Cove

Laffites Cove and Pirates Cove are West End planned communities on the Galveston Bay side of Stewart Road, between 11 Mile Road and 13 Mile Road. A majority of the homes in both of these neighborhoods are on the water, with boathouses or docks on canals, lakes or bayous leading into Galveston Bay. The late West Galveston real estate developer George Mitchell began creating Pirates Cove in the 1970s, and followed with Laffites Cove in the 1990s. Outstanding nearby amenities include the members-only Galveston Country Club (golf, tennis, swimming and dining), Galveston Island State Park (beach, camping, kayaking, nature trails), Lafittes Nature Preserve (prime public birding and wildlife area) and the Galveston Coastal Heritage Preserve. A fire/EMS station, groceries, gas, restaurants, churches and a bank are also nearby. Pirates Cove has 588 single-family households, while Laffites Cove encompasses approximately 145 homes. Homesites are available in both Laffites Cove and Pirates Cove. Typical homes are in the range of 2,500-3,000 square feet on quarter-acre or smaller lots. Homes in Pirates Cove are available for vacation rental; however, vacation rentals are not allowed in Laffites Cove.  Some sections of these subdivisions require a social membership to be maintained at the Galveston Country Club (Check with your Realtor). Homes in Laffites Cove and Pirates Cove are priced in the upper tier of Bay houses for sale in Galveston, with typical sales prices ranging from the $300,000s to $3 million.
